Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis had a career season in 2008 batting .312, hitting 29 homers and driving in 115 RBI... all while bouncing from first to third and sliding into the clean up spot in the second half.
"Youk's" dirt dog style of play, versatility and trademark goatee have made him a fan favorite here in Red Sox Nation and the Bottom Line is giving the fans a chance to chat with their All-Star firstbaseman.
Starting today and wrapping up at 5:00PM on Thursday Dec. 11, Bottomliners can submit a question for Youk in the comments section below. After all the questions have been submitted, Youk has agreed to answer the best questions and we'll post those answers here on The Bottom Line!
So... if you've always wondered where that funky batting stance came from... how hard it is to switch positions in the middle of a game... or how he feels about Mark Teixeira possibly coming to Boston... hit the comment button and get writing!
(Note: We'll submit 10-12 question in the hopes that all will be answered, so keep it clean and make sure your question makes sense - thanks!)

Youk, what pitcher on the Red Sox would you least like to face as a hitter?
Good question FW...
It it were me, I'd say Papelbon. I don't care who you are.. if your facing guys like Paps or K-rod... you have to feel like you've already lost before you even step in the box.
Youk, do you really want Teixeira to come to Boston, knowing that Mikey Lowell will be losing his job? I just can't phathom that. Sure Teixeira may be a good player, but Mikey took less years and money to stay here. Where is the loyalty to this man, who is the classiest guy in the game?
Wow, what a loaded question by Anon. I want to know how Youkilis feels about a game worn pair of his boxers being sold on eBay. Doesn't that creep him out a bit?!
There are rumors that your beard has magical powers. Can you confirm or deny? And if so, have you thought about taking out insurance on it?
SA - saw that story earlier - def. a little weird... and I wonder how he feels about Beckett's trunks going for some much more than his!
J - I hope he answers this question becuase the answer could be hilarious.
Anon - I hope that my post did not imply that Youk WANTS Tex to come to Boston and kick Mike Lowell out of town... that is not true.
But if Tex does come here, I'm curious to hear how Youk feels about how it will effect him, Lowell and the team.
Keep 'em comin' guys!
I just saw this entry. Am I too late to submit a question?
I know no player would or should comment on any current contract negotiations, but I'm wondering if Youk could comment on whether he has given any thought or effort towards staying with Boston long term. (Here's hoping that's a big "YES" and that the Front Office agrees.)
Hey Rob,
I'll ask more of an off-the-field question:
Most Red Sox fans have heard of the SlumpBuster, the drink with the naughty name that Youkilis promoted this season. Let's be honest: You DID know that meant, right, Youk?
Thanks for the great season.
Good questions guys... I screwed up and didn't post the closing date for this - it's Thursday Dec. 11th...
So keep the questions coming!
Has anyone ever told you that you look like Youkon Cornelius?
Hey Youk! I was just wondering if you're ever in Cincinnati during the offseason....
Also, how did you get such an unusual swing?! Has it always been like that, or what?
And one more thing...
Does your beard really have magical powers? (LOL)
Thanks! GO SOX!
:-)
Maybe Beckett's underwear sold for more since they have been seen by more women. Wonder if it bothers Youk's wife, Enza, that Youk's underwear is being sold?
Youk, Will you take less than top dollar to stay on the Sox?
What was your personal favorite moment of the 2008 season?
Youk - how would you encourage an aspiring 4th grader? My son has hopes for major league play.
Youk, how difficult is it to prepare for a game physically and mentally when the position you play can change from game to game?
Youk, what is your favorite part about playing at Fenway?
Youk, do you have any unusual habits or routines before a game?
Youk, what was the funniest moment in the Sox clubhouse this year? Or, if anyone does pranks, what was the best prank this year?
Hi Youk,
Alot of us feel that you are just entering your prime, will continue getting better, and the best is yet to come at bat, in the field, and as a clubhouse leader. On the other hand, some feel you play so hard you will burn out in a few years. Do you have any thoughts on that?
Howdy Kevin. Might I ask you a personal question? I've seen the sweat rolling off your helmet visor like you are in a sauna when it's not even hot outside. Have you ever played with a teammate who sweat more than you? For instance, what would your bucket look like next to Pedroia's? Papelbon? Ortiz?
Hey Youuuuuuuk,
With the signing of Dustin recently making news I am curious where you stand as far as longer term negotiations go. What kind of contract are you looking for and do you think you and the Boston brass will be able to come together on something sometime this next year?
great questions guys. thanks for reading!
