Wake pitched well enough for the win last night, but as I mentioned yesterday, Matt Garza is a control freak and he proved it last night by holding the Sox to just 5 hits and zero walks over 7 innings.
The one bright spot was Jacoby Ellsbury - who reached base three times on pure speed. He got into scoring position each time but the Sox couldn't get him across home plate when they needed it most.Drew, Ramirez, Lowell and Youkilis combined to go 0-14 in the heart of the lineup... causing many to wonder whether or not the Sox can succeed without David Ortiz. Tito says that's bull:
“I don’t really care to talk about who we’re missing. We showed up to win and they outplayed us,” Francona said. “That’s what matters to us... Regardless of who you have out there, you either win or you don’t.”
Bottom Line: The Sox have now lost three in a row by the narrowest of margins, and they look like a team in dire need of a break... somebody needs to step up and spark this team.
