Weekend Update: Quick and Dirty

Here's a quick recap of the weekend games:

Friday: 7-6 Loss -- Box Score

Jon Lester gave up 4 runs over the first two innings, but the Red Sox battled back, scoring 4 in the 5th and taking a 6-4 lead. But Jonathan Papelbon just didn't have it and he gave up the game winning hit to Mike Lamb in the 9th, blowing his second save in a row and causing the Minnesota water jugs to cower in fear...

Youkilis and Lowell stayed hot combing for 4 hits and 3 RBI. Youk also stole a base, along with Lugo and Ellsbury.

Saturday: 5-2 Win -- Box Score

It wasn't pretty but, Daisuke Matsuzaka finally went 7 innings and earned his 6th win without a loss. He gave up 6 hits, 2 runs and fanned 7... he also gave us a glimpse at the "Gyro Ball."

The Sox hit 4 home runs in this one - Kevin Youkilis, Coco Crisp, Jed Lowrie and Mike Lowell. Jed Lowrie was the BL Hero, going 3-4 with a double and a homer... he was promptly sent back to Pawtucket to make room for Alex Cora.

Sunday: 8-9 Loss -- Box Score

The "knucklah" was not working last night for Tim Wakefield, and the Sox found themselves in a 5-0 hole early, but the offense kept chipping away and had the score at 8-4 at the end of 4.

Coco Crisp hit a 2-run shot in the 7th to make it a a two run game, but Craig Monroe responded with his second of the game off of Mike Timlin. The Sox would rally again against cloer Joe Nathan, scoring 2 runs in the ninth and giving Manny a chance to hit #498 and steal a win from the Twins... but that didn't happen.

Crisp had the biggest day, going 2-5 with a homer, a triple, 3 RBI and a steal, but Ortiz, Youkilis, Drew and Cash also had 2-hit games... and Alex Cora went 3-4 in his return to the bigs, while filling in at SS for Lugo.

Bottom Line: The Sox can split the series tonight and with the Ray just 1.5 games back so the Sox need a win.
