Lunch Time Notes: "Straight Cash Homey"

After a 2-4 showing last night, Kevin Cash is now batting .375 on the you season. Cash is not the first guy that comes to mind when you need and hit and the game's on the line, but when Manny grounded out to end the game last night, I wondered why Tito didn't just stick with the hot hand...

Bottom Line: Cash is 5 for 8 with 2 RBI in his last two starts. He won't keep that pace, but after years of Mirabelli hovering below the Mendoza line, Cash's BA is a welcome site... if he keeps it up, maybe someone will finally utilize the awesomeness of his last name and make a T-Shirt...

Sorry Dougie...

Alex Cora went 3-4 in his return to the bigs last night. Jed Lowrie was sent back to Pawtucket to make room, after going 3-4 with a double and a home run on Saturday.

Sean Casey is expected to return to action tonight and has threatened to throw down with Tito is he's not in the lineup soon, but Casey's return will most likely force the Sox to send Craig Hansen to AAA again and Tito seems to think that might not be so smart:

"We're not in a hurry to lose pitching, so we have to do things in a manner that makes sense," manager Terry Francona said.

Casey's response? -- "If it doesn't happen tomorrow, I'll fight him," Casey said with a grin.

Manny Ramirez thinks The Sox should trade Julian Tavarez to the Brewers for one of the Milwaukee sausage guys... and there are still rumbings that Tavarez could be traded to Colorado and potentially be a starter.

He also told Rob Bradford that he thinks he's the best left fielder the Red Sox have even had... “I think I’m the best ever to play left field in Boston.”

He goes on to comment on his fielding... I'll just let you read the quotes:

"How am I going to win a Gold Glove if they take me out in the eighth (inning)," Manny said, jokingly reffering to being replaced by Ellsbury on occasion.

"I invented that throw that I do,” said Ramirez, mimicking the double-play-like flip he uses to get the ball back into the infield. “I don’t know how it started, it just happened like three years ago. I have to practice it, though. I started to learn how to throw it where it tails right into (second baseman Dustin Pedroia [stats]). But I need to practice it more. I haven’t practiced it at all this year. But I’ve got it.”

Lastly, the Herald has an excerpt from Mike Lowell's new book Deep Drive.
