The Red Sox placed pitcher Clay Buchholz on the 15-day disabled list with a broken fingernail on his right middle finger.Buchholz has struggled on the road all season (0-3, 8.64 ERA) but really only had one "bad" outing this season - the 15-9 loss to the Yankees in which he gave up 7 runs in just 3 2/3 innings.
This fingernail thing may explain the back-to-back poor outings for Buchholz, but it will remain to be seen if his command returns in 15 days...
In the meantime the Sox catch a break (if you can call it that). Buchholz's trip to the DL opens a much needed roster spot. The Red Sox called up outfielder Jonathan Van Every from Pawtucket to help in the outfield because JD Drew suffered a wrist injury suffered in Tuesday night's loss to the Orioles, Ellsbury is still nursing a sore knee, Manny's got a sore hammy and Coco's tummy hurts.
Bottom Line: It will be interesting to see when Buccholz returns with Bartolo Colon looming in Pawtucket.

I think it will be at least a month before we see another start for Clay.
